DPA © Australia came from behind at half-time for a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Thailand in Brisbane Friday at the start of their quest for a third consecutive World Cup appearance.
Teerasil Dengda opened the scoring in the Asia group D game after 15 minutes, making the most of a brilliant cross from Jakkaphan Kewprom.
Australia had to wait until the 58th minute before Josh Kennedy slotted home the equalizer. Alex Brosque hit the winner for the Socceroos four minutes from time in front of a crowd of 24,540 at Suncorp Stadium.
The group also features Oman and Saudi Arabia who were playing later in Muscat.
